Creating Balance During the Equinox

The equinox is a powerful moment in the year when day and night are equal, symbolising balance and harmony in the natural world. It’s a time that encourages us to reflect on our own lives and consider how we can bring more balance to our bodies, minds, and environments. In a world that often pulls us in so many directions, finding equilibrium is essential for our well-being.

In this post, we’ll explore ways to align ourselves with the energy of the equinox and create balance in our daily lives through mindful practices, energy work, and Feng Shui principles.

Embrace the Energy of the Equinox

The equinox marks a pivotal point between the seasons—a pause before the tilt of the Earth shifts us into either the darker days of autumn or the renewal of spring, depending on where you are in the world. It’s a perfect time to reset and reflect on areas of your life that feel out of balance.

Ask yourself:

  • Where am I overextending myself?

  • Where am I under-investing energy or attention?

  • What patterns or habits are draining my energy instead of replenishing it?

By tuning into these reflections, you can begin to shift your focus toward what truly matters, paving the way for balance and harmony.

Balance the Body

Physically, our bodies crave balance, and the equinox is a great time to reconnect with your physical health. You can do this by paying attention to your posture, diet, and movement routines.

  • Movement: Practices like yoga, Pilates, or even gentle stretching can help realign your body and release tension. Trigger Point Pilates is a wonderful practice for deep muscle release and postural balance—this allows energy to flow more freely.

  • Breathwork: Incorporating breathing techniques like the Calming Breath or Rapid Release Technique (available as a download on in my resources section) helps balance your nervous system, reducing stress and promoting calm.

  • Nourishment: Eat seasonal foods that nourish your body. In autumn, this may mean grounding root vegetables; in spring, fresh greens. Think of your meals as a way to connect to the Earth’s natural cycles.

Strive for emotional and Mental Balance

The equinox invites us to recalibrate emotionally and mentally. We often find ourselves swinging between extremes—feeling overwhelmed or exhausted by demands and expectations. Now is the time to restore balance in these areas:

  • Mindful Reflection: Consider journaling or practicing meditation to gain clarity. Next week I'll be looking at 'Heartfelt Clarity' and sharing some practiced to guide you to revisit your values and intentions. Use this space to tune into your heart, asking, What do I truly want?

  • Set Boundaries: In this phase of transition, take stock of your boundaries—are they helping you stay balanced, or are they too loose or too rigid? Set clear boundaries that protect your energy.

  • Let Go: Just as the trees shed their leaves in autumn or burst into new life in spring, consider what you need to let go of. Whether it's outdated beliefs, habits, or emotional baggage, releasing what no longer serves you can create space for what aligns with your authentic self.

Balance the energy around you

As a Kinesiologist and Feng Shui Consultant, I often talk about the importance of energy balance. The equinox is a great opportunity to harmonize your energy.

  • Energy Clearing: Consider using energy clearing techniques to refresh your space and body. You can use practices like sage smudging, sound healing, or visualizations to clear stagnant energy.

  • Feng Shui Adjustments: In Feng Shui, balance is crucial to ensure the flow of Chi (energy) supports your well-being. Pay attention to areas of your home that feel cluttered or stagnant. Clear out spaces that have become overwhelmed with things you no longer need. Simple adjustments like adding plants, opening windows, or even just rearranging furniture can bring fresh, balanced energy into your environment.

  • Grounding: Make time to connect with nature. Whether it's a walk in the park or simply standing barefoot on the earth, grounding helps balance the body’s energy systems, which can become frazzled from modern-day life.

Stay heart-led

One of my favorite equinox practices is setting heart-led intentions. Since this time of year is about balance, consider setting intentions that align with both your inner and outer worlds.

Think about:

  • What do you want to create in your life that aligns with your heart's desires?

  • How can you balance your ambitions with your need for rest and self-care?

  • What habits will support a more balanced, joyful life moving forward?

Use the energy of the equinox to plant the seeds for your future growth. By aligning your actions with heartfelt clarity and purpose, you can create a life that feels balanced and true to you.

Final Thoughts

As the equinox brings a moment of pause and reflection in nature, we can use this energy to realign ourselves—physically, emotionally, and energetically. By embracing balance in all areas of our lives, we invite more harmony and flow into our day-to-day experiences.

Take this opportunity to reflect, let go, and set your intentions for the season ahead. What does balance look like for you? How can you use the energy of this moment to create more harmony in your life?
