5 Ways to Rebalance and Reclaim Your Energy After the Summer Holidays

Updated: Sep 20

As the summer holidays draw to a close and the kids head back to school, many of us feel a mix of relief and overwhelm. The return to routine can feel both comforting and chaotic, leaving us yearning for a sense of balance. The good news is that this transitional time is the perfect opportunity to reset, realign, and reclaim our energy. Here are five simple ways to help you get back on track and start the new season with a renewed sense of vitality.

1. Re-establish a Morning Routine

Your morning routine sets the tone for the entire day. After the less structured days of summer, re-establishing a consistent morning routine can help ground you and bring a sense of calm and focus. Start with just a few minutes of mindful breathing or light stretching to awaken your body gently. Consider adding a short Kinesiology exercise such as Switching or a Central Meridian Balance to align your energy and enhance mental clarity. Aim to spend 10-15 minutes each morning on these grounding activities, and notice how they positively impact your mood and productivity.

2. Declutter and Refresh Your Space

We know this, right… physical clutter can lead to mental clutter, making it harder to focus and feel at ease. With the change of season, it's a great time to declutter and refresh your home environment. Start by tackling the areas that impact you the most, such as the entryway, workspace, or bedroom. Clear out items that no longer serve you, organise what's left, and bring in elements that evoke a sense of calm—like fresh plants, natural light, or soothing scents.

In Feng Shui, your space is a reflection of your inner world. By decluttering, you create room for new opportunities and positive energy to flow. Try moving furniture to create more openness or adding elements like mirrors to enhance light and energy (just try to avoid placing mirror directly opposite the bed or a window). A simple shift in your environment can have a profound impact on how you feel. And remember, if you only do one thing, open the front door and get some fresh energy into the house every morning.

3. Reconnect with Self-Care

The return to routine often brings a focus on responsibilities, but it’s important to prioritise self-care to avoid burnout. Now I’m not going to tell you to get to the gym three times a week or do an hour’s yoga before the rest of the family wake up (#unrealistic!) but here are a few tiny things that I find tend to have a snowball effect on my wellness through the day.

  • Drink a pint of water first thing - this tends to actually make me more thirsty and so I end up drinking loads during the day.

  • Practice Gratitude While Brushing Your Teeth - think of three things you’re grateful for. This tiny habit helps to shift your mindset and cultivate a sense of appreciation, even on busy days.

  • Smile at Yourself in the Mirror - even if it feels a bit silly. It can boost your mood, improve your self-esteem, and add a positive start or end to your day.

  • Get Outside - even if it’s just for five minutes of fresh air on your balcony or in your garden. Feel the sun on your skin, listen to the birds, or notice the sensation of the wind. It’s a quick reset that can boost your mood and help you feel more grounded.

  • Early bed - just 30 minutes earlier that normal will give you far more chance of managing a decent amount of sleep (even if you have little kids!) and mean you're way more likely to be in a positive mood in the morning.

Self-care doesn’t have to be time-consuming or complicated. Small, consistent actions can create a big impact on your overall well-being. Think of these moments as non-negotiable appointments with yourself to recharge and reconnect.

4. Set New Intentions for Autumn

I love a bit of intention setting and the start of a new season is the perfect time to think fresh ideas. Take a few moments to reflect on what you want to focus on in the coming months. Perhaps it’s dedicating more time to personal growth, achieving a professional goal, or simply cultivating more peace and balance in your daily life.

Grab a journal and write down three key intentions for this autumn. To help you get started, I’ve created a free downloadable worksheet with prompts to guide you through the intention-setting process. Break down your intentions into actionable steps, and remember to celebrate small wins along the way. Setting clear intentions helps you stay aligned with what truly matters to you.

5. Mind Your Energy

After a busy summer, it’s easy to feel a bit drained or off-balance. Protecting and nurturing your energy is crucial for maintaining a sense of calm and focus. Start by incorporating simple energy protection techniques, such as grounding exercises, visualisations, or Kinesiology practices that help reset your body’s natural balance.

One easy practice is the “Zip Up,” where you imagine zipping up an invisible shield from the base of your spine to the top of your head, sealing in your positive energy. I’ll be sharing more techniques like this in my upcoming “Protect Your Energy” workshop, check it out for more details!

As we transition from summer to autumn, embrace this time as an opportunity to reclaim your energy, reset your routine, and set meaningful intentions for the season ahead. Small, simple changes can make a big difference in how you feel and navigate the months to come.
