Optimising the energy in your home
To truly optimize your home's energy, a full Feng Shui analysis is ideal, considering your home's compass orientation, current energetic cycle, and the cycle during its construction. However, even without a full analysis, understanding the nine Bagua areas and applying simple remedies can significantly improve your home's energy. Below, I explain each Bagua area, its connection to your life, and how to enhance its energy, along with basic Feng Shui principles you can use throughout your home.

Set your intention
One of the most powerful ways to enhance Feng Shui in your home is by setting clear intentions. Before making changes or adding remedies, take time to reflect on your desires for each area of your home and life. For example, consider your career goals for the north area or health intentions for the central area. Keep these intentions in mind as you make adjustments. For added focus, write them down and place them in the corresponding area of your home, updating them as your goals evolve throughout the year.

The entrance
Keep it Tidy
Clutter slows energy flow. Keep paths, driveways, and entrances clear and inviting. Sweep, weed, and store bins out of sight.
Make it Easy
Energy, like a guest, needs clear access. Ensure your home is easy to find with clear signage and a welcoming entrance. Avoid obstacles like cars or furniture.
Block Negativity
Use wind chimes or crystals (black tourmaline and selenite) at the entrance to repel negative energy.
Maintain Positive Energy
Regularly open your front door to welcome positive energy. Store shoes and coats neatly to keep energy moving.
Use a Solid Front Door
A solid, sturdy front door provides protection and keeps positive energy inside. Avoid doors with glass panels.
Good Lighting
Ensure the entrance is well-lit to attract positive energy and create a welcoming atmosphere. Replace broken or dim lights promptly.
Incorporate a Water Feature
If possible, place a water feature near your entrance. Flowing water symbolises abundance and can help attract wealth.
Add a Welcome Mat
A clean, vibrant welcome mat can invite good energy into your home while symbolically “cleaning” the energy that enters.
Cleanse the energy
-
Clean and open doors and windows regularly to allow good energy to enter your home freely.
-
Cleanse your space by burning white sage or using sound tools like bells, drums, or clapping, especially in hidden areas such as under furniture and inside cupboards.
-
Keep your home tidy by removing clutter, dust and cobwebs to maintain positive energy.
-
Place salt lamps in areas with challenging energy to absorb excess negativity.
-
Regularly cleanse and recharge crystals to keep their energy fresh and effective.
-
Diffuse purifying essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus, or frankincense to uplift and cleanse the space energetically.
-
Incorporate Fresh Plants to improve air quality, enhance positive energy and bring life into your home.
Optimising the nine Bagua
The Bagua represents nine key areas of your home, each corresponding to different aspects of your life. If there's an energetic block or imbalance in a Bagua area, it may manifest as challenges in the related life area. By optimising the energy within each Bagua, you can support and enhance these areas of your life. Additionally, writing down your intentions for each area can help focus and amplify your energy work.
North West
Helpful people & travel
Optimise
This area influences the support you receive from others and your travel opportunities. Display travel souvenirs, brochures, or symbolic artwork of places you aspire to visit to encourage these opportunities. Consider adding items that represent the help you want in your life, like a small statue symbolising mentorship or guidance.
Intentions
Write specific “job descriptions” for the types of helpful people you wish to attract, outlining the qualities and assistance you seek.
Crystals
Amethyst helps open you up to new people and opportunities, fostering connections that support your endeavours.

West
Fertility, Children, and New Beginnings
Optimise
The West is associated with creativity, children, and new ventures. If you’re hoping to start a family, display artwork that represents your future family, such as symbolic images of animals or playful scenes. For other new beginnings, include representations of your goals, like a picture of your dream home or a symbol of a fresh start, like a butterfly.
Intentions
If it feels right, purchase an item for your future child and keep it in this area as a physical manifestation of your intention.
Crystals
Malachite promotes new growth, black moonstone supports fertility, and carnelian boosts creativity. For fertility intentions, include moonstone, unakite, and jade.

South West
Romance, Love, and Marriage
Optimise
The South West governs love and relationships. If you’re in a relationship, display photos from happy moments like your wedding or honeymoon. If seeking love, create a vision board detailing what you’re looking for in a partner and keep it here.
Intentions
Focus on pairs when decorating this area—two candles, two figurines, or artwork depicting couples—to strengthen the energy of partnership.
Crystals
Rose quartz is the ultimate love stone, jade brings harmony, and Dalmatian jasper fosters joy and connection.

Balancing key rooms
The Kitchen
The kitchen is a central hub for nourishment and prosperity, even if it isn’t located in the South East Bagua. To maintain a flow of abundant energy, keep the space as clean and clutter-free as possible. Discard unused or expired food, and store sharp objects like knives in drawers to avoid bringing harsh energy into the space. Clear countertops encourage a smooth flow of energy, while a small mirror behind the stove can reflect and amplify prosperity. If the stove faces the sink, place a wooden item, like a plant or green towel, between them to balance the fire and water energies. Limit the use of bright fire colours (reds, oranges, yellows) to avoid an excess of fiery energy in the kitchen.
The Bedroom
The bedroom is primarily for rest, relaxation, and romance. Position the bed with the headboard against a solid wall, ensuring you can see the doorway from the bed for a sense of security. Avoid placing a mirror directly opposite the bed, as it can symbolically introduce a third party into the relationship. Ensure both sides of the bed are balanced with equal access and similar furnishings like tables or lamps to promote equality in the relationship. Keep the area above the bed free of heavy objects, and avoid displaying family photos or religious symbols, which can interfere with the room’s romantic energy. Minimise electronic devices and cover them at night to reduce their impact. If the room doubles as a workspace, neatly store work items out of sight at the end of the day. Opt for neutral, calming colours in the decor to enhance relaxation.
The Bathroom
Bathrooms, filled with water, represent prosperity and abundance, but they also symbolise the outflow of energy. To prevent the loss of positive energy, incorporate earth elements, like pebbles or earth-toned decor, to slow the movement of water energy. Use natural fibres like hessian or wicker, and ensure there are no leaks or dripping taps. Tie red ribbons around the outflow pipes under sinks to symbolically contain your wealth. Avoid excessive blue tones or water-themed artwork, as the room already contains ample water energy. Focus on maintaining balance and preventing energy from draining away.
